I expected to have a great showing and really push the hills. I worked hard and rode well but nothing like the show Clint put on. I’ll never forget the sight I witnessed while struggling to hang on to the back of the long cycling peloton made up of strong "Team KOME"riders. As the bicycle train rounded a long corner and the sun lit up the bright orange jerseys of the speeding paceline, I was able to see the leader, dressed in black, cutting the wind with his aerobars, pulling the pack like an obsessed locomotive. After about 5mi I waved him off the front, to save him from complete burn-up. As the train continued by, they all thanked him. I was amazed to be witnessing gratitude from purist cyclist to a triathlete! Later, as I discovered that I was gonna burnout long before Clint, I got to see him again benefit the pack with an amazing pull and follow it up with a 2nd place hill sprint at mi 85 which was where my legs packed up and went South. It was a struggle to the finish but overall a fun ride and a learning experience about staying properly fueled.
