What is IRON PRAYER?

IRON PRAYER is a prayer service usually held at an Ironman distance triathlon.  It is a NON DENOMINATIONAL gathering of athletes, family, and friends for a time of worship, testimonies, and prayer prior to Ironman and other triathlon events around the world.  It is sponsored by Trinity Triathletes. The purpose is to help everyone get their focus from "self" and all that is going on with the event to the source of strength - God and to the needs others as we pray for each other. The official IronPrayer.com website is run by pastor, Bob Brubaker, in Florida.

IRON PRAYER was started in 2000 by pro triathlete Chad Hawker after he was knocked off his bike by a car.  Just a week before the Hawaii Ironman, he was out of contention, but he felt God still had a purpose.  During his recovery he felt God impress upon him to start the IRON PRAYER.  (more.....)

PowerBreak Message for June 18, 2005: KNOWING vs. KNOWING

It’s one thing to know things by principle and precept and something altogether different when you experience it first hand. You can read about completing a marathon or Ironman event but until you cross the finish line for yourself, you never really "KNOW" the experience. You can read or hear about what a good relationship is like, but you don’t really know what it is like until you are involved. Likewise, we read about God’s promises, we study and absorb His Word enjoying the comfort and power it gives but until we are there, until we experience the reality of the truth of His Word we may know but not really know it.

Those of you who have been following my experiences on my website as I have been keeping a journal of our time in Denver, know that I have had my ups and downs as the team of doctors from National Jewish Medical Center and University Hospital have been working at finding and treating my severe respiratory problems. In the midst of the time here, my health has taken some dips to say the least. Jan and I were reflecting after worship this weekend about all that God had done for us as He delivered me from the valley of the shadow of death. The best way to describe the feeling of having been delivered from death is how the Psalmist put it.

Psalm 28:6-7 (New Living Translation) Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. [7] The Lord is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

About two weeks ago I was looking at the face of death as my collapsing lung filled my body with air to what doctors described as five times the normal size. (See www.bobbrubaker.com & Challenge 2005 for updates and pictures.) Through this horrible experience, God has made Himself known to us in ways we knew about in His Word but never would have known until we experienced it for real.

I have preached and am preparing to preach a series of messages from Psalm 23 when I return to Winter Park Church, Lord willing on April 24th. I have memorized that Psalm and preached on that familiar passage of Scripture many times but after the experiences of that God has taken us through, I know Psalm 23 as I never knew it before…… (more)
