Ironman Lake Placid
July 22, 2006
We had an amazing Ironman Prayer & Celebration Service
(Iron Prayer service). Counting the mission teams (about 50 people)
and our church members who attended (about 15 people), we had over 200
people who attended (including kids). Nine people trusted Christ as
Lord and Savior! Mission teams from GA led a kids program in our
church gym for kids age 10 and
under. The guest speakers for Iron Prayer were Michael Pluimer
(multiple Ironman competitor), Brad Varner (1st time Ironman), and
Ryan Silvius (who completed IM LP -- his first Ironman -- last year).
Music was led by mission teams from GA. After the service, 3 people
were baptized in the lake (Lake Placid) -- an Ironman volunteer (new
Christian, and new member of our
church), the wife of an Ironman athlete (local residents), and an
Ironman athlete from Maryland, who gave his life to Christ a little
over a year ago.
Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of any of the above mentioned
activities. However, I have attached a couple of pictures of our team
interacting with athletes at the North Country Ministries sponsored
Ironman Pancake Breakfast (we served about 1000 people), and us
serving at an aid station on race day. I also included a picture of
one of our recent baptisms, the same site where we baptized those on
Ironman weekend. And, I included a picture of the block party / BBQ at
our church, held on the night before the Prayer service (with a sign
for the prayer service in the background).
We did other ministries throughout the week also, including:
-serving at registration
-helping with Ironman banquet set up
-having an NCM booth in the Ironman expo area (face painting, sno
cones,
balloon animals)
Thanks!
In Christ,
Derek Spain

Ironman Coeur d'Alene
June 23, 2006

FCA
Endurance Newsletter - July 31, 2006 (Click on link)
During the
Ironman Coeur d'Alene weekend, FCA Endurance had the opportunity to
partner with Iron Prayer Ministries and Tod Hornby and the Lake City
Community Church (LCCC) to help put on an Iron Prayer on Friday afternoon before
the race. This was an awesome event! It was held
outdoors at a
small park, with fantastic weather. The LCCC Praise Band was fantastic and
opened things up and closed things down with a few great worship songs.
Speakers for this event included nationally-known coach JR Rosania,
pro-triathlete Heather Gollnick, and FCA Endurance Executive Director Chris
Anderson.
JR Rosania was
able to share part of his story and tell about how his life was changed
through his friend, Pat Tillman. Since Pat’s death, JR has searched and
found the Lord’s path for his life, looking to be a
complete servant
of the Lord through all that he does. He shared Phil 2:2-8, and
inspired many by his desire to live a complete life for Christ.
After JR, pro
triathlete Heather Gollnick shared about finding joy in Christ and the
blessings that we all experience through Him. She challenged all
of us to seek, find, and spread that glorious joy. She also challenged us to
smile as a reflection of that joy, even during the pains
of racing. As a
side note to her message, Heather was definitely smiling when she
finished second on race day!
Chris Anderson
then got to share and challenge people to think about why they race.
Competing, finishing Ironmans, achieving goals, doing “great” things,
and getting human praise or material rewards will never satisfy you.
There is always something more and/or bigger, and we can only
find peace and
joy by doing all things for and through Christ. As Matt. 6:19-21 says, we
need to live and compete for treasures in Heaven that last. After
Chris shared, everyone broke into small groups and prayed for the
athletes who were competing. This was a powerful time, and
everyone was
touched. After the event, people were able to hang out and share in
fellowship.
As an exciting
end to these events, some IM CDA staff were present at the Iron Prayer,
and had great things to say about it. There was even some talk about how
to incorporate it further into the main IM village/expo for next year. This
would be a huge opportunity to reach more individuals, and your prayers
about this would be greatly appreciated.

Pro & Iron
Prayer Speaker, Heather Gollnick, Gets 2nd Place!

Report - 4/7/06
Hey Everyone - just a quick report...we've worked two days now
with an ICTN booth at the
IM AZ
Expo. Dozens and dozens have
come by. We're pumped all the ministries that are a part of the
ICTN and especially the Iron
Prayer service which we just had a few hours ago. We had 95-100
attend the service, up from 80 last year. Gave great
promo for the other
IP services this year and for
the ICTN
Tri Camp next Jan. We'll have
to cap that camp at 125 and I don't think we'll have any problem
getting there. It was great to see a number of
triathletes in town for the
race on Sun. who came to the camp last Jan. God is at work.
Momentum is building! I'll send out
pics of everything in a few days after I recover from this
outreach and Holy Week. Heather
Gollnick spoke at the service
and did a great job.
We'll run the booth all day tomorrow. We've got the following
banners hanging in/on/around the tent/booth -
ICTN, Iron Prayer, Athletes in
Action, and FCA Endurance.
We've given out probably 200 copies of the little
tri specific evangelism tool,
Step Up To Life. All in all, an amazing two days!
Thanks for praying,
Linc

It went well! The
temperature dropped significantly and it started to pour down rain
about 15 minutes before we started. Before I could even really
finished asking him, Roch (Frey) let us take one of the IM tents
from the expo and move it over to our site for the band so they
didn't get soaking wet. We had about 25 people there, which I think
is pretty good in light of the weather. The worship was awesome, as
were the speakers - Ken Sacher and John Owen from FCA-Endurance.
There were 5 other people who had told me personally that they'd be
there who weren't, so I can only imagine how many more would have
come had the weather cooperated. The band certainly drew a lot of
attention from those who were braving the weather in the expo area.
In any event, I'm
confident that the Lord was glorified and that the event was a
blessing to the athletes. Almost all of them approached me after the
service to tell me how awesome it was for them. I think it was
especially encouraging for the first-timers. We also had a few
friends there who aren't Christians, and I think the service was a
good witness to them. We took everyone's race numbers and were able
to cheer most of them on out on the course the next day, as well as
pray for them individually.
